FIF Announces the Creation of FIF Grand Est

On the occasion of its annual General Meeting on 10 July 2025 in Strasbourg, the French Railway Industry Association (FIF) announced the launch of FIF Grand Est, its first regional offshoot. The announcement was made in the presence of Franck Leroy, President of the Grand Est Region, who was hosting the FIF at the regional council. This initiative marks a new step in the territorial structuring of the French railway industry. It embodies a shared ambition between the FIF, industry players in Grand Est, the SNCF Group and the Grand Est Region: to build, as close as possible to the ground, a railway industry that is more connected, more innovative and more sustainable, drawing on strong, resilient and attractive local industrial ecosystems. Grand Est, a strategic and symbolic choice The choice of Grand Est was a natural one to initiate this momentum. A region with a historically industrial heritage, it has a dense railway network, with more than 200 identified companies, including several iconic players in the sector. A pioneer in railway policy, it was the first French region to create a Société Publique Locale (local public company) for the acquisition of rolling stock, and to take back management of its local branch lines, thereby affirming its commitment to strengthening industrial control in the service of mobility. A first roadmap in the service of innovation, employment and ecological transition FIF Grand Est's first mission is to bring together regional players around three strategic priorities: industrial performance ; the attractiveness of trades, training and skills development; innovation and the decarbonisation of rail transport and, more broadly, contributing to the decarbonisation of the economy. It will offer an operational framework for cooperation between large groups, SMEs and mid-caps, to bring forth concrete projects and strengthen the visibility of the industry. A representative and committed regional governance The governance of FIF Grand Est rests on a board made up of key players based in the region. The chairmanship is held by Jacques Gargowitsch, Chairman of FS Group, supported by four vice-chairs: Stéphanie Dommange, Regional Coordinator of the SNCF Group Julien Guilleret, Director of the CAF Reichshoffen site Julien Rat, Director of the Lohr Group's railway division Eric Tassilly, Chairman of Knorr-Bremse Systèmes ferroviaires France This pluralistic governance guarantees strong territorial roots, recognised sectoral expertise, and an operational capacity to serve local industry players and their partners.
